A Change in Direction

This is my second summer blog post and like last time a lot has happened in between then and now. Since the publication of the last post I have looked at more cases and am starting to get a better idea of the direction that my findings will take me. I recently met virtually with my mentor, Dr. Kasper. In our meeting we discussed the direction that this could lead me. He gave me a little more direction and told me about a couple more cases to look at that would be pertinent to my research. He also told me of a couple things in particular to look for. He mentioned that a major component to the answer could lie within what a dorm room window would be deemed. He told me to investigate if a dorm room window is a public or nonpublic forum. Based upon our conversations, we are leaning more towards a nonpublic forum so far, but I will continue to look at this to ensure I come to a reasonable answer. That being said, I have not gotten a chance to move on to the presentation aspect of this yet. There are a slew of cases I could look at that can alter my idea of what the answer to my question is.
Since my last post I have had an “interesting” month. I am still working on balancing my personal life and academic life, but I am getting a better grasp of how to balance that and manage my time properly and efficiently. I also had a past medical issue reemerge which was less than exciting and a little scary. Since that event everything has been going well so I do not think it will be a nagging concern.
I have lofty goals to close out the summer. I plan to finish looking at pertinent cases soon and move toward a write up of my findings. This will likely be the most time consuming thing I will be doing for the research, it will feel like that at least. For someone who dreads writing papers and compiling information into a very organized document, it will take painstaking detail. By the end of the write up, I should be able to look back at it and be proud of what I was able to accomplish in one summer.
One final thing I would like to touch on that has changed since the last time I posted. I have decided to push back taking the LSAT to ensure that the test goes as well as it can. When I took the practice test, it went less than stellar. I need more practice and one summer is not going to be sufficient in ensuring I do as well as I expect from myself. In doing this, I will in all liklihood be pushing back a transition to law school back a year. This will give me a chance to fund my law school experience and practice for the LSAT longer. That being said, I cannot wait to see this research come to it’s conclusion and start my final year of my undergraduate degree.
